§ 14-198. Examination required.

  • (a)

    All applicants for a master electrician license shall first present proof of passing the Southern Standard Building Code Master Electrical Examination to determine their ability and qualifications to do electrical work within the city as master electricians and to determine their contractual responsibility.

    (b)

    All applicants for a journeyman electrician license shall first present proof of passing the Southern Standard Building Code Journeyman Electrical Examination to determine their ability and qualifications to do electrical work within the city as a journeyman electrician.

    (c)

    All applicants for a journeyman electrician license must submit a notarized resume stating the time, place and company where electrical experience was obtained.

    (d)

    Every applicant for a journeyman electrician license must also submit a letter from a master electrician stating the applicant has had two years' experience in the electrical construction industry and in the master electrician's opinion the applicant is a qualified electrician.

    (e)

    Journeymen and masters who have obtained their licenses through an alternate testing agency other than the Southern Building Code Congress International, Inc. shall present their information to the board of electrical examiners. The electrical examiners board has the right to examine all information concerning the applicant for a journeyman electrician license or a master electrician license and to grant or reject a license. Only those individuals who have taken an exam that is equal to or exceeds the Southern Standard Building Code Journeyman or Master Electrical Exam shall be considered for a license.
